Example Lightamins
Lightamins are currently divided into three categories – verses, adages and humor. Every lightamin has at least three parts – the overall subject(s) of the lightamin, a main phrase or verse, and a commentary section. Verses and Adages will also have various Scriptures to read related to that day’s message. Here is an example of each:

You know you are in Africa when, after seeing a giant spider above you in the rafters of a village hut, you call the lady of the household only to see her come in and squash it with her bare fingers.
At some point in the future, God is going to bring life as we know it on this earth to an end. He will send Jesus back. All the dead will hear His voice. Both those who did good and those who did evil will be raised from the dead and judged. The saved will receive “eternal life” while the condemned will receive “everlasting punishment”. This being the case, put your faith in Jesus! Jesus before the words of today’s reading, Jesus also said, “I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.” Hear Jesus and live!
Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (NKJV) “Diligently seek” paints a picture of someone who is putting in genuine effort into finding. They aren’t giving up easily, but persevering in their search. They are serious, intentional about trying to find God. It is that kind of heart God loves and rewards. He will help any such person, including you, to come to know Him – His ways, His love, His forgiveness, His eternal salvation. So don’t quit. Seek God.
One time during our missionary years in West Africa, we were worshipping outdoors at a certain village. There were about 30 or 40 of us sitting in a large oval shape. As we sang and clapped, an elderly, shirtless lady came walking by. She walked into the middle of the oval and started doing a traditional dance. I leaned over to my wife and said, “Well, I never thought I’d see topless dancing in church!”
